Building a Better Tomorrow: Management Development Program on Lean Manufacturing & Management at SPSU
The Centre for Innovation in Skills and Social Entrepreneurship (CISSE), Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur, with its mission to make students industry ready and strengthen the capacity of youth for sustainable employment, organised an MDP in collaboration with MSME on Lean Manufacturing and Management from February 14–18, 2023 under the leadership and visionary guidance of Honourable President and Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee. She appreciated the initiative and acknowledged the Resource Person Mr. Praveen R. Joshi Deputy Director and Head MSME branch, Udaipur. She accentuated that empowering the young minds with the necessary skill set is the key to economic growth and technological innovation. Motivating the students she stressed on Reskilling, Up skilling and Run Skilling. Focusing on Six Sigma techniques of reducing errors she highlighted the role of optimistic intelligence for achieving the goals.
Mr. Praveen R. Joshi in the MDP stressing on the role and the importance of MSME (Micro-Small Medium enterprises) in India, highlighted that 40% of the employability lies in this sector. Explaining the transition of the market from a seller’s market to a customer’s market, the importance of quality, he brought to light that Lean manufacturing and management is a vital weapon for any enterprise’s arsenal. Taking some Japanese analogies, like the KANO model for categorizing customers and the KANOs 3 Arrows diagram and phrases used by the Japanese in the work culture, he facilitated the students understanding on the subject. The principles of lean and the seven types of waste were explicitly discussed in the sessions. More than 75 participants registered for the MDP and participated actively in the sessions. Prof.(Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee was the chief patron and Prof. (Dr.) Bhawana Adhikari, Dean Academics, Dr. Sanjay Mishra, Registrar were the Advisors for the programme. Dr. Amrit Ghosh, Faculty and Member CISSE along with other members Dr. Shibani Banerjee, Dr. Shweta Lalwani, Mr. Himanshu Purohit and Dr. Chandani Joshi coordinated the programme. Prof. Sadananda Prusty Dean School of Management, Dr. Manish Dadhich faculty SOM, HoD’s and faculty members of the University too were present in the programme.
