Seed Grant Scheme
Introduction
The Seed Grant scheme is aimed to stimulate the research activities in frontier/emerging areas, to promote innovation and technology development and to facilitate the start of active research programme which shall attract external funding.
Objectives
- To support a faculty to start a research program that has the potential to sustain by attracting funds from external agencies.
- To nurture a novel idea and to generate preliminary results before submitting proposals to external agencies.
- To promote inter-faculty collaboration in emerging/frontier areas.
- To promote the generation of IPR and quality research publications with high impact.
Seed Grant amount: Rs. 75,000 (Maximum Limit)
Duration: 2 Years (Maximum)
Eligibility
- To support1. Any regular faculty member of the University holding a PhD degree with a proven track record of quality research and employed in the University for at least one year. a faculty to start a research program that has the potential to sustain by attracting funds from external agencies.
- Any group consisting of regular faculty members from one department / different departments of the University
- Any group of researchers comprising of regular faculty members, PhD Scholars, Post-Graduate and graduate students led by the faculty member as PI only.
- The proposal shall be invited by the Office of Dean, Research of the University twice a year in the prescribed proforma.
- An Internal Selection Committee shall be constituted by the President for the short-listing of the proposals. For the shortlisting of the project, the PI of the project shall be called for a presentation on the proposal.
- The shortlisted proposals shall then be sent to the external expert(s). The recommendation of the external reviewer along with the internal assessment shall be the basis for the final selection and award of the seed grant.
- A financial sanction shall be released mentioning the title of the project, details of PI/Co-PI, phased release of the seed grant amount, etc.
Expected Deliverables
- Externally funded projects should be generated as an outcome of a seed grant.
- Publication in SCI/SSCI/ SCIE journals/intellectual property generation including product/process development would be expected as outcomes of the project.
- Product OR Process Patent as an outcome of the innovation projects.
Other Conditions
- At any point in time, a faculty member can be part of only one such project.
- A faculty member with a proven track record of quality research shall be preferred and more weightage shall be given to the quality of the proposal and expected deliverables.
- The decision of the selection committee will be conveyed to the PI who will be the contact person for all administrative matters regarding the project.
- The PI is responsible for the conduct of the research in accordance with the University research policy.
- Procurement, utilization and maintenance of equipment will be as per university policy
- The funds have to be utilized within the stipulated period.
- The grant money has to be utilized in accordance with the approved budget.
- The PI should submit a progress report every six months in the prescribed format for evaluation of the progress of the project. In case it is found that proper efforts are not being made further release of funding may cease.
- The PI will also be required to report progress or outcomes at the end of one year after the termination of the seed grant, including grants received and publication/IPR arising out of the seed grant.
- In any research publications arising out of the funded project, the contribution of the institute should be duly acknowledged.
- Any intellectual property (IP) emerging out of research funded by the University will be owned by the University. Such IPR will recognize contributions by all researchers as ‘inventors’, and any resulting revenues shall be shared by the University and the inventors.
- Article Processing Charges/patent application or processing charges cannot be covered under the seed grant.
