Before we understand the NSS in details, you should know the objectives of national service schemes. this slide is showing various objectives of national services scheme. once you join the NSS who are known as the NSS volunteer.
The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
- Understand the community in which people work.
- Understand the relation to their community
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve NSS volunteers in problem-solving
- Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
- Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
- Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
- Gain skills in mobilizing community participation
- Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
- Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
- Practice national integration and social harmony.
Coverage
After Understanding various objectives of an NSS program. let me tell you about the coverage of NSS program. Started initially in 37 universities involving 40,000 volunteers, the scheme has grown over the years, and it is implemented today with an involvement of more than 3.8 million volunteers spread over in 396 Universities, Polytechnics and 47 Councils of +2 level. The efforts of NSS volunteers have been widely praised by the community, universities, colleges, and general public as the NSS volunteers have been rendering selfless service to the community.

Once you are a NSS Volunteer, you have to actively participate in two types of Activities.

- Special Campaign Program
Regular Activities
NSS volunteers generally work in villages, slums and voluntary agencies to complete 120 hours of regular activities during an academic year. As per the fundamental principles of National Service Scheme, a volunteer is expected to remain in constant touch with the community. Hence, it is of vital importance that a particular village/slum is selected for implementation of NSS programmes.
Special Camping Programme
Every year 50 percent of the volunteers of each NSS unit are expected to participate in special camps which is of seven days duration. NSS volunteer is to live with the members of the community during the 7 days Special Camping Programme and learn from their experience during his/her tenure in NSS, the village/slum should be carefully selected for adoption by NSS unit. Special Camping Programme forms an integral part of National Service Scheme. It provides unique opportunities to the students for group living, collective experience sharing and constant interaction with community.

Aug. 30, 2024
The fifth day of the NSS camp featured a thrilling athletic event in front of the university
mess. The activities for the day included Shotput, Discus Throw, and Long Jump,
attracting over 120 students. These events provided a platform for participants to
demonstrate their physical prowess, technique, and competitive spirit. The diversity of
participants, coming from various departments, added to the excitement of the day.
The athletes displayed remarkable dedication and skill, contributing to a lively and
competitive atmosphere.
Shotput: The Shotput event began with participants demonstrating their strength and
technique in throwing the heavy metal ball. The competition was fierce, with each athlete
striving to achieve the longest throw. The participants were judged on their ability to
combine power with precision.
Discus Throw: Following the Shotput, the Discus Throw event took place. Participants
showcased their ability to spin and release the discus with maximum force and accuracy.
The event was marked by impressive throws, with several students displaying
outstanding form and control.
Long Jump : The Long Jump event was the final activity of the day. Participants took
turns to sprint down the track and leap as far as possible into the sandpit. The event tested
their speed, strength, and jumping technique. Spectators cheered on the athletes, creating
an encouraging and supportive environment.

On the fourth day of our NSS camp, a series of sports activities were organized across
various grounds on the university campus. The event attracted over 200 students,
including many participants from other colleges and university teams, making it a day
full of energy, competition, and camaraderie. The event saw enthusiastic participation
from both our university students and those from other institutions. The turnout was
impressive, with over 200 students participating in different sports activities.
This large-
scale participation fostered healthy competition and allowed students to interact with
peers from different educational backgrounds.
Event Details: The day began with a 30-minute Run & Walk in the morning, where
students showcased their stamina and determination. This activity aimed to promote
physical fitness and the importance of regular exercise among the youth.
Following the
run, various sports activities were conducted simultaneously on their respective grounds:
Badminton: Teams competed in fast-paced matches, displaying agility and skill. The
matches were held in a knockout format, with participants showing exceptional talent and
sportsmanship.



Football : The football matches were intense and exciting, with teams from different
colleges battling it out on the field. The level of competition was high, and the spectators
enjoyed every moment of the matches.
Volleyball: The volleyball games saw excellent teamwork and coordination among the
players. The rallies were thrilling, and the players’ efforts were commendable.
Basketball : The basketball courts witnessed some high-energy games, with students
demonstrating their shooting, dribbling, and passing skills. The matches were
competitive, with teams from various institutions showcasing their talent.

On the third day of our NSS camp, an exhilarating Tug of War (Rassa Kassi) competition
was held in front of the University mess. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation
from over 80 students, who came together to display their strength, teamwork, and
sportsmanship. The event was a perfect blend of fun and learning, as students showcased
their strengths while understanding the importance of teamwork. The activity also served
as an excellent platform for students to bond with peers from different departments,
fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie.

On the day second, the NSS unit of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur
organized an Arm Wrestling and Weightlifting competition at the Gymnasium. This event
was part of our ongoing efforts to promote physical fitness, healthy competition, and
student camaraderie. The event saw tremendous participation, with more than 100
students participating enthusiastically. The event’s primary objective was to encourage
students to engage in physical fitness activities and foster a spirit of healthy competition.
By organizing arm wrestling and weightlifting competitions, we highlighted the
importance of strength, endurance, and overall well-being among the student community.
The event was a resounding success, with participants enjoying the competitive aspect
and gaining a deeper appreciation for physical fitness. The competition fostered a sense
of unity and camaraderie among students, as they supported and encouraged one another
throughout the event. The positive feedback from participants and spectators alike
underscores the value of such activities in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

Aug. 26, 2024
The NSS unit of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur, organized a Matki Phor
event, a traditional game, in the area opposite the mess. This activity was part of our
ongoing efforts to promote cultural heritage and engage students in recreational yet
meaningful activities. The primary objective of the Matki Phor event was to foster team
spirit, collaboration, and cultural appreciation among students while celebrating the
joyous occasion of Krishna Janmashtami. The game, deeply rooted in Indian tradition,
allowed students to connect with the cultural significance of Lord Krishna’s playful spirit.
The event was a great success; more than 80 students participated actively and displayed
excellent teamwork.

On August 15, 2024,
the NSS unit organized a Tiranga Rally and a Poster
Exhibition to celebrate Independence Day and raise awareness about social and
contemporary issues. The event began with flag hosting at the Admin Block, where
NSS volunteers, students, faculty members, and officials gathered to participate in
the Tiranga Rally. The rally, filled with patriotic fervor, highlighted the importance
of national unity and the significance of the Indian tricolor.
Following the rally, the participants proceeded to the Lab Block for the Poster
Exhibition. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the university inaugurated the
exhibition. The exhibition showcased creative and thought-provoking posters on
various social and contemporary issues such as gender equality, environmental
conservation, digital literacy, and more. Each poster was designed by NSS
volunteers, reflecting their commitment to addressing these challenges and
inspiring change.
On the occasion of Independence Day, our Vice-Chancellor delivered an inspiring
message, emphasizing the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by our
freedom fighters. He encouraged everyone to uphold the values of freedom,
justice, and equality, which are the pillars of our nation.
Regarding the Poster Exhibition, the Vice Chancellor expressed his appreciation
for the creativity and dedication of the NSS volunteers. He highlighted the
significance of raising awareness about contemporary issues through such

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of SPSU organized a campaign titled “Nasha Mukti Bharat Abhiyaan: Viksit Bharat Ka Mantra, Bharat ho Nashe se Swatantra on August 12, 2024. This event aimed to raise awareness among students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to encourage a drug-free India as part of the larger vision of a developed nation.
The primary objective of the campaign was to educate students on the dangers of drug addiction and substance abuse, highlighting the importance of a drug-free lifestyle in contributing to the overall development of the country. The event sought to inspire youth to actively promote a healthy and productive society. Over 150 students participated, reflecting their enthusiastic involvement along with university faculty members. A short satire depicting the struggles of individuals battling addiction was screened, significantly impacting the audience. Following the awareness session, an interactive discussion was held, where students shared their views and asked questions. The discussion provided a platform for students to express their concerns and better understand the issue.
All participants took a pledge to abstain from drugs and to spread awareness about the negative effects of substance abuse in their communities. The pledge was led by the NSS Program Officer, Dr Manish Dadhich, Dr Harish Tiwari, Dr Amrit Ghosh, who motivated the students to be ambassadors of change.
The “Nasha Mukti Bharat Abhiyaan” campaign successfully achieved its objectives, with students leaving the event more informed and motivated to lead a drug-free life. The NSS Unit of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur conducted an oath Taking ceremony to celebrate “WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY” on 31st May 2022. The vital subject of the event was to focus on “SAY NO TO TOBACCO” which witnessed participation of around 55 NSS volunteers and 25 Staff members of the University.The event started with a welcome address by the anchor which was followed by an oath taking ceremony from students and staff members.
The pledge pointed out assurance from students that they won’t consume tobacco in any form such as cigarettes, bidis or gutkas, etc and would also encourage others not to do so. Campus director Mr. Sanjay Sinha conveyed to the students and staff about the side effects and diseases caused by consuming tobacco in any form. Registrar, Proctor, student advisor,Dean SOE and SOM along with NSS program coordinator Mr. Harish Tiwari were present during the event.

5th June, 2022
The Environment Club along with NSS Cell of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur organized a Poster Making Contest on account of World Environment Day, June 5,2022. The themes for the poster preparations were Clean India, Global Warming and Tree Plantation. Students of School of Engineering and School of Management enthusiastically participated in the event. Total twenty two students registered in the poster making contest.
Total twelve posters were received from the participants. The posters were exhibited in the admin block for the students and faculty members of the university to visit. The jury members for the contest were Dr. Tulika Chakrabarti and Dr. Archana Gajbhiye. Posters from Bipasha Ishita and Krishna (BBA sem II) and Dharita & Chhaya (B.Tech Sem II) were adjudged for first and second position respectively.

NSS cell of the university has organized Triranga Rally on the 76th Independence Day at Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur under the Azadi ka Amrit-Mahotsava campaign. All the NSS volunteers and students along with faculty members were participated in Tiranga Rally.
The Rally started form the admin block of the university and reached old main gate. All the students were having Tiranga in their hand and they pledged to respect the Tiranga throughout their life. Prof.(Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee (Vice Chancellor), Dr. Sanjay Mishra (Registrar), Prof. Sadananda Prusty (Provost and Dean, SoM), Dr. Arun Kumar( Dean SOE), Dr. Vinod Patidar( Dean Research) and Dr. Deepak Vyas ( Proctor & Head Chemistry Department) HODs of all the department and other faculty members were also participated in the rally.

NSS cell of the university has celebrated the 76th Independence Day with great zeal and enthusiasm at Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur. The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof.(Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee hoisted the tricolor. Promoting the initiative and highlighting the benefits of healthy, environment friendly lifestyle ‘Tree Planation Drive’ was organized by the NSS cell of the University where Prof. (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee (Vice Chancellor)

Promoting the initiative and highlighting the benefits of healthy, environment friendly lifestyle ‘Tree Planation Drive’ was organized during the Orientation Programme 2022 for the students of Batch 2022. All students and faculty members planted trees nearby the area boys’ hostel 1. More than 30 trees were planted in this tree plantation drive. Over 150 students participated, reflecting their enthusiastic involvement along with university faculty members. A short satire depicting the struggles of individuals battling addiction was screened, significantly impacting the audience. Following the awareness session, an interactive discussion was held, where students shared their views and asked questions. The discussion provided a platform for students to express their concerns and better understand the issue.
All participants took a pledge to abstain from drugs and to spread awareness about the negative effects of substance abuse in their communities. The pledge was led by the NSS Program Officer, Dr Manish Dadhich, Dr Harish Tiwari, Dr Amrit Ghosh, who motivated the students to be ambassadors of change.
The “Nasha Mukti Bharat Abhiyaan” campaign successfully achieved its objectives, with students leaving the event more informed and motivated to lead a drug-free life. The high level of participation and engagement indicated the program’s effectiveness in raising awareness and promoting a healthy, drug-free environment on campus.
In the end, the NSS team extended heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Prithvi Yadav, Campus Director, Lt. Col. Neeraj Kumar, Dean-SoM, Prof (Dr) Sadananda Prusty, Head Admin, Mr. Sunil Pandey, faculty members, staff and students for their unwavering support and participation in the campaign.

The NSS Unit of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur conducted an oath Taking ceremony to celebrate “WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY” on 31st May 2022. The vital subject of the event was to focus on “SAY NO TO TOBACCO” which witnessed participation of around 55 NSS volunteers and 25 Staff members of the University.The event started with a welcome address by the anchor which was followed by an oath taking ceremony from students and staff members.
The pledge pointed out assurance from students that they won’t consume tobacco in any form such as cigarettes, bidis or gutkas, etc and would also encourage others not to do so. Campus director Mr. Sanjay Sinha conveyed to the students and staff about the side effects and diseases caused by consuming tobacco in any form. Registrar, Proctor, student advisor,Dean SOE and SOM along with NSS program coordinator Mr. Harish Tiwari were present during the event.

The Environment Club along with NSS Cell of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur organized a Poster Making Contest on account of World Environment Day, June 5,2022. The themes for the poster preparations were Clean India, Global Warming and Tree Plantation. Students of School of Engineering and School of Management enthusiastically participated in the event. Total twenty two students registered in the poster making contest.
Total twelve posters were received from the participants. The posters were exhibited in the admin block for the students and faculty members of the university to visit. The jury members for the contest were Dr. Tulika Chakrabarti and Dr. Archana Gajbhiye. Posters from Bipasha Ishita and Krishna (BBA sem II) and Dharita & Chhaya (B.Tech Sem II) were adjudged for first and second position respectively.

NSS cell of the university has organized Triranga Rally on the 76th Independence Day at Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur under the Azadi ka Amrit-Mahotsava campaign. All the NSS volunteers and students along with faculty members were participated in Tiranga Rally.
The Rally started form the admin block of the university and reached old main gate. All the students were having Tiranga in their hand and they pledged to respect the Tiranga throughout their life. Prof.(Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee (Vice Chancellor), Dr. Sanjay Mishra (Registrar), Prof. Sadananda Prusty (Provost and Dean, SoM), Dr. Arun Kumar( Dean SOE), Dr. Vinod Patidar( Dean Research) and Dr. Deepak Vyas ( Proctor & Head Chemistry Department) HODs of all the department and other faculty members were also participated in the rally.

Tree Plantation Drive

Promoting the initiative and highlighting the benefits of healthy, environment friendly lifestyle ‘Tree Planation Drive’ was organized during the Orientation Programme 2022 for the students of Batch 2022. On this occasion Dr. Sanjay Mishra (Registrar), Prof. Sadananda Prusty (Provost and Dean, SoM), Dr. Arun Kumar (Dean SOE), Dr. Deepak Vyas (Proctor & Head Chemistry Department) Dr. Manish Dadhich (Program Officer NSS) and Mr. Harish Tiwari (Programme Coordinator NSS) were present.
All students and faculty members planted trees nearby the area boys’ hostel 1. Prof. (Dr.) Sadananda Prusty (Provost and Dean, SoM) addressed students and motivated them to adopt the tree during their tenure in the SPSU and take care of tree during this time period. More than 30 trees were planted in this tree plantation drive.
