The NSS unit of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur, organized Swachata Hi Seva (SHS) – 2024 lecture. The event was organized to promote the importance of cleanliness and sustainability in alignment with the nationwide Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, fostering a sense of community responsibility and environmental stewardship among participants.
Objective:
The primary objective of the lecture was to create awareness about the significance of cleanliness in public spaces, highlight sustainable waste management practices, and motivate students and faculty to actively contribute to cleanliness drives in their communities. Speaker and Audience Dr. Manish Dadhich, an environmental sustainability and management expert, led the session. The audience comprised over 40 NSS Volunteers, faculty members, and community leaders, all committed to promoting the Swachh Bharat mission.

Introduction to Swachata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign: Dr. Manish Dadhich began by explaining the SHS campaign’s significance, emphasizing that cleanliness is not just a responsibility of the government but of every individual. He recounted the historical evolution of the Swachh Bharat initiative and how SHS aims to intensify the focus on citizen engagement.
Sustainability and Waste Management:
The lecture highlighted key areas such as proper waste segregation, recycling, composting, and the role of communities in maintaining public spaces. Dr. Harish Tiwari shared case studies of successful cleanliness initiatives from across India, illustrating how small efforts can lead to substantial changes in local communities.
The Role of Youth in Cleanliness Drives: A significant portion of the lecture was devoted to encouraging students and young citizens to participate in cleanliness and hygiene drives. Dr. Amrit Ghosh emphasized that youth involvement is crucial for driving behavioral change and ensuring the long-term success of initiatives like SHS.
Interactive Q&A Session:
Following the lecture, an interactive Q&A session was held, where students and faculty posed thoughtful questions regarding personal contributions to maintaining cleanliness, ways to organize community drives, and how to collaborate with local authorities effectively.
Outcome:
The lecture inspired many participants to engage in cleanliness drives in and around the campus. Several students volunteered to lead initiatives such as waste segregation workshops and campus cleaning drives. The event raised awareness about the importance of a cleaner, healthier environment and instilled a sense of responsibility among the attendees to take proactive steps in ensuring public hygiene. In the end, the NSS team extended heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Prithvi Yadav, Campus Director, Lt. Col. Neeraj Kumar, Registrar, Prof (Dr) U R Singh, Head Admin, Mr. Sunil Pandey, Dean Research Prof (Dr) Prasun Chakrabarti, Prof (Dr) Sadananda Prusty, Dean-FoM, faculty members, staff, and students for their unwavering support and participation in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam-III” campaign.
