Ph.D In Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics, SPSU, Udaipur is committed to provide expert guidance to the students to help them develop competence in Mathematics and to apply the knowledge in the field of Engineering and Management. The Department currently offers courses on Engineering Mathematics containing Linear Algebra, Calculus, Integral Transforms, Complex Analysis, Theory of Matrices, Numerical Methods, Probability, Sampling theory, Statistics, Mathematical programming, and courses on Business Mathematics, Business Statistics etc. to the various B.Tech.,
M.Tech., B.B.A. and M.B.A. degree programmes offered by the University. Primary role of the Department is to deliver the content of various Mathematics courses with responsibility to the students of different engineering and management programmes, by discussing every topic of Mathematics with necessary prerequisites and by pointing out the potential applications of Mathematics for Engineers and Management experts to understand the necessity of the subject and to create interest in learning,
so that even the below average students may easily understand and grasp the Mathematical concepts and become able to apply the Mathematical knowledge to the relevant engineering or management streams. We use modern teaching techniques such as providing regular handouts on materials covered in classes, mixing PowerPoint presentations, along with the smart-board teaching and the remedial classes for smaller groups of students. All faculty members are available throughout the day to help the students.
The department also offers the career-oriented courses on Quantitative Aptitude & Logical Reasoning to prepare the students for various placement drives, interviews, and competitive examinations. Moreover, besides supporting the two schools of SPSU, namely, SOE & SOM, the department is also successfully running the PhD programme in Mathematics.
The department pursue its PhD programme and carries research in the following two sub-areas of mathematics:
Thrust areas of research:
- Special functions and their applications, Generalized elliptic and q-hypergeometric functions.
- General theory of relativity and cosmology, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Anisotropic Bianchi type Cosmological Models.
All the faculties of our department are PhD and most of the faculties owe the teaching experience of more than 22 years. The faculty members of the department have reasonably good research exposure and have their publications in the WoS/Scopus/MathSciNet indexed national and international Journals of good impact factor. The faculty member(s) participate in mathematical activities at national/international level by participating in conferences/ workshops/ seminars and have been invited for delivering talks at national level on their area of specialization. The faculty member(s) are contributing towards reviewing/ editorial activities for reputed and indexed publications. The faculty member(s) have also established international collaborations with mathematicians from Canada, US, Iran and Korea.
