B.Tech in Mining Engineering

B.Tech in Mining Engineering

Mining is a major economic activity which contributes significantly to the economy of India. Of the total industrial sector, mining industry contributes around 11% to the GDP. The current mining technology & practices being used allow mining to the depth of approx. 300 meters which means that 25% of the reserves of India still remain unexploited & needs modern techniques & processes to discover & exploit. Thus, it needs highly trained engineers & scientists for extracting these minerals from earth without causing any harm to the environment. Mining industry on an average provides job opportunities to around 700,000 individuals & offers wide range of career opportunities with high salary packages both in the public & private sector.
The Mining Engineering programme will teach the principles & techniques of mineral exploration, underground/surface mining operations as well as mineral processing technologies. Studies include modern & economical method of mining, rock mechanics, rock fragmentation, plant & mine design, mine ventilation, surveying, valuation, industrial hygiene, mineral law, mine safety, mine computing, mineral processing, solution mining & operations research. The importance of ecological & environmental planning is recognized & given significant attention in all aspects of the mining engineering curriculum.
