Course Description:Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2007. Being one of the most advanced disciplines within biology, the objectives of the department has been to provide technical skills to the students in various aspects of biotechnology. To achieve this objective the department has developed an integrated approach by incorporating contemporary syllabus in both theory and practical. Providing hands-on training with the support of technical staff is one of the main training initiatives developed for the students. To make it an effective learning process the laboratories are equipped with the latest instruments. To deliver the contents of the syllabus, the department has highly qualified faculty members.
The research area covers important aspects in biochemistry, microbiology, molecular genetics, genetic engineering, tissue culture etc. The thrust areas of research include: identification and characterization of therapeutic agents for the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and other brain related disorders, characterization of bioactive compounds from entophytic fungi of medicinal plants, soil bioremediation through microbes, production and characterization of bio-surfactant by microorganisms, production and characterization of value added products including enzymes and organic acids, micro-propagation of medicinal and ornamental plants, production of secondary metabolites from plant cell cultures, production of biodiesel from microalgae etc.
Course duration: 4 Years
Residential: All Bachelore Degree Programmes are compulsorily resisdential
Eligibility for Admission:
- Pass in 10+2 science or its equivalent examination from a recognised board (Preferably above 60%)
- Admission to all SPSU Programmes will be through SPSAT’17.
