A semester-long collaborative, virtual project has been undertaken by
the University, which involves undergraduate students from the
University of Nebraska – Omaha (UNO), the University of Wisconsin –
Eau Claire (UWEC), and students from the Sir Padampat Singhania
University, Udaipur (SPSU) in offshore development. 45 engineering
students from CSE Final year are involved in this project. Considering
the globalization of the workplace in today’s digital world, it is
imperative to expose students to an environment where they can
experience the challenges faced by the virtual teams in a real
off-shore assignment. To perform this project, students will work
together in virtual teams. This project will expose all students to
the complexities of time, geographical, and cultural differences in a
systems development project.
The project aims at achieving following objectives for the students:
- Combine the information technology skills and management concepts
with their creative, research, and problem solving skills.
- Apply class concepts to a specific project in a manner similar to a
work environment.
- Work with students from other locations in a true “virtual team.”
- Demonstrate decision-making and leadership skills within a team.
