A group of III year students selected on the basis of merit from different streams of B.Tech. programme went on industrial visit to Hindustan Zinc plant, Chanderiya, Chittorgarh. The students were led by Dr.D.S.Chouhan and Dr.Deepak Vyas, faculty members from the University. The Industrial visit was sponsored by DST (Dept of science and technology).
The main objective of the visit was to:
a) To expose students to engineering experience and knowledge.
b) To apply the engineering knowledge taught in the lecture rooms in
real industrial situations.
c) To use the experience gained from the ‘Industrial visit’ in
discussions held in the lecture rooms.
d) To get a feel of the work environment.
e) To gain experience in writing reports in engineering training.
After reaching the plant at Chanderiya there was an introductory lecture by Mr.Kapoor, Sr.Manager, Hindustan Zinc. Mr. Kapoor in his lecture briefed the students about different processes going in the plant. It was informed that Chanderiya Smelting complex is the largest single location for Zinc Smelting in the entire world. His presentation covered Introduction about the processing, types of smelters and techniques used for separation of Zinc and Lead metals from the minerals.
The students were then taken to the site along with the HR personnel of Hindustan Zinc where they were practically shown different processing like Roasting, leaching and smelting processes.
Most of the industrial units were regulated and controlled by advanced computing techniques and software’s.
During the way to Chanderiya the students were also taken to the Chittorgarh fort where they enjoyed so much. The entire visit was very informative and helpful for the students who were exposed to the industry.
We are thankful to the University and DST for organizing such a wonderful industrial visit and also thanks to the faculty members Dr.Deepak Vyas and Dr.D.S.Chouhan for help and support in organizing the same.
