The Conclave got off to an electrifying start with a highly thought provoking as well as mesmerizing speech by the President Mr.Ashok Ghosh. The other dignitaries present were Mrs.Rinu Ghosh Vice President, Prof.Pradip C Deka Vice Chancellor and Prof. K.K Sud, Senior Professor Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur; The Management Conclave was graced by a constellation of towering personalities from the business and academic world with the objective of bringing together a convergence in the various viewpoints as far as Management education is concerned. The School of Management at Sir Padampat Singhania University of Udaipur is barely six months old and successfully organised Management Conclave on 7th & 8th of January 2010 on Contemporary Issues in Management

Two days’Management conclave 2010- organized by the School of Management had opening address by
Mr.Ashok Ghosh,President SPSU who expressed concern at the gap between industry and academia and emphasized the need for greater interaction between them. He focused on the paradigm shift in the term ‘Management’ which is based on knowledge, information, innovation and empowerment. There is centrality of human capital, need for learning organizations and a Transformational leader who shall also serve to be a Change agent. The six contemporary issues of Management as pointed out by him were People issues, Cost and Competition, Government Policies, Change and Technology, Quality and Productivity, and Leadership.
His speech was followed by the Keynote speaker Prof.Shyam S Lodha, Chairman - Marketing, Southern Connecticut State University, U.S.A; who spoke on a wide range of management issues including India-China marketing relationships, transparency and accountability as need of the hour and future of young India.
The other eminent personalities who spoke during the inaugural function were Prof. Navin Mathur Vice-Chancellor, Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur who spoke of the centrality of the human being in the business world. Prof. Shyam Babu Vyas,Director, Assalar Business School, Delhi spoke of ‘Change’ being the foremost of the contemporary issues.
Prof.Sushil J Lalwani, School of Management, Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur expressed his gratitude to Mr.Ashok Ghosh,Mrs.Rinu Ghosh ,Prof.Pradip C.Deka for outright support and blessings and to Prof.Shyam S.Lodha,Prof.Navin Mathur and Prof.Shyam Babu Vyas for giving time from their busy schedule and to colleagues of School of Management for academic assistance.The inaugural session was orgnised by Mr.Himanshu Arora and Ms.Harsh Charan.
Soon after the inauguration and lunch, the academicians & researchers reconvened to discuss & ponder over various academic problems. The central theme of Contemporary Issues in Management was viewed from the perspective of all four areas of specialization, namely, Marketing, HR, IT and Finance with a technical session devoted to each of these functional areas.
The Marketing Session was chaired by Prof.B.P Sharma, Director, Pacific Institute of Management with Prof.B.S Patel, Director, Sumandeep Vidyapeeth and Prof.Parimal Vyas, Professor and Head, Department of Business Administration, MS University, Baroda as the keynote speakers. The theme paper was presented by the Coordinator, Dr.Monika Kothari with SPSU students, Mr.Bhavdev Charan & Ms.Shagufta Khan as anchors.This session had 28 research papers.





The HR Session was chaired by Prof.Naveen Gupta, Director General, Advent Institute of Management Science & Technology with the Keynote speech delivered by Prof.Anil Mehta, Rajasthan University, Jaipur. The theme paper was presented by the Coordinator, Dr.Shweta Lalwani with SPSU students, Mr. Adhish Verma and Ms. Harsh Charan as anchors.24 research papers were received for the session
The IT Session was chaired by Prof.DP Goyal from MDI, Gurgaon with Shri Jitendra Shreemali as the keynote speaker. The theme paper was presented by the Coordinator, Mrs.Sumangala Rathore with Mr.Himanshu arora & Ms.Archana Rawat, both SPSU students, as anchors.In all 10 papers were presented.
While the IT Session was in progress, a Case Writing Competition for students was conducted so as to encourage students to view business scenario from the case perspective and to recognize the talent among the participating students. The contest was coordinated by Dr.Vineet Chouhan and the cases submitted were evaluated by Dr.Monika Kothari & Dr.Shweta Lalwani. The case submitted by Mr.Gaurav Sharma of Vyas Institute of Management, Jodhpur was adjudged the best while the cases of Mr.Sulabh Sawai, SPSU and Mr.Hitesh Prajapat, Vyas Institute of Management, Jodhpur got the second and third prizes respectively.
The Finance Session was chaired by Mr.Anil Shah,Leading Chartered Accountant and Secretary of the Advent Education Foundation, Udaipur with keynote speeches being delivered by Prof. G. Soral, Head, ABST Department, University College of Commerce & Mgmt. Studies, MLSU, Udaipur and Prof. Rajesh Kothari, Director, Poddar Institute of Management, Rajasthan University, Jaipur. The theme paper was presented by the Coordinator, Dr.Vineet Chouhan with two SPSU students, Ms.Priya Jain & Mr.Sulabh Sawai anchoring the event.
A Round Table on Quality Management Education proved to be yet another important event in terms of the discussions it generated and the stature of panelists who participated in those discussions. The Round Table started with a presentation on Quality Management Education by Shri .Jitendra Shreemali followed by penalists sharing their experiences and thoughts on what constituted quality management education and how it involved not just institutions but the entire education system. The speakers included:Mr.Ashok Ghosh, President, Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur;Prof.D.P. Goyal, MDI Gurgaon;Prof.Prithvi Yadav, Director, GHS-IMR, Kanpur;Mr.Eskay Mahajan, President, Wolkem India Limited, Udaipur;Prof. Shyam S Lodha, Chairman - Marketing, Southern Connecticut State University, U.S.A;Prof.DS Chundawat, Dean,UCCMS,Director MHRM Programme, MLSU, Udaipur;Dr.Kaneez Fatima Sadriwala, Director, Aravali Institute of Management, Udaipur;Dr.Archana Golwalkar, Director, Aishwarya College of Management & Information Technology, Udaipur; Prof.Sushil J Lalwani, School of Management, Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur.
The overriding thoughts that emerged from the Round Table included:Need for the formation of a Management Forum for addressing needs of a maturing science;Need for enhanced focus for knowledge creation through research;Need for a transparent mechanism of funding of projects & institutions that was based on nature of project and demonstrated ability to deliver and need to strive for higher quality given the entry of foreign universities in India.The Round Table was anchored by Mr.Adhish Verma & Ms.Monica Yadav, both MBA students of SPSU, Udaipur.
The two days’ Conclave ended with Valedictory Function Chaired by Vice Chancellor, Prof.Pradip C Deka and Prof.Shyam S Lodha as the keynote speaker. Prof.Deka shared his views on the benefits of conferences and seminars and the need to have more such occasions as well areas where we could focus in the future. Prof.Sushil J Lalwani presented a summary of the proceedings of the two day Management Conclave and thanked all dignitaries for their valuable contributions. The Management Conclave 2010 was declared close at 4.45 PM on 8th January, 2010.
