Area of Specialization:
Atomic Physics, electron – atom/ion collision studies,
electron spectroscopy: The ionization of the atoms, ions and molecules by relativistic / non-relativistic projectiles such as electrons, protons, positrons or highly charged ions has been the subject of theoretical and experimental studies since the early days of quantum mechanics. With the advent of modern coincidence techniques, it has become possible to investigate electron impact ionization in great detail by recording the triply differential cross section, i.e. detect the two electrons emerging from the reaction resolved in energy and angles. Such studies have delivered important insights into the dynamics of quantum few-body systems, information about the structure of the target, information of wave functions and momentum profile. The atomic and molecular data are strongly required in various scientific and technological areas such as aeronomy, astrophysics, biomedicine, gaseous electronics, surface physics, industrial plasmas, fusion, semiconductor and other technologies. We have calculated triple differential cross sections of the electron impact single ionization processes (i.e. (e, 2e) processes) for Inert gases He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe in various geometrical modes and kinematical conditions. We have also investigated spin asymmetry in the relativistic as well non-relativistic energy regimes for various atomic and ionic targets. Recently we have investigated (e, 2e) processes on alkali, alkali earth targets and argon atoms in low energy regime. It is observed that post-collision interaction and polarization are important effects at the low incident electron energies.
